2026 Web Design Trends We're Actually Shipping (Not Just Pinning)

Every year the trend lists drop and every year most of them are eye candy that tanks your load time and confuses your customers. So here's the honest version — the 2026 web design trends we're actually shipping for Hampton Roads businesses, and the ones we skip.

The ones that actually earn their place

  • Text-only hero sections. Oversized, kinetic type + a gradient — no stock photo. Loads instantly, reads on any screen, and forces you to say something real. This is the biggest shift, and it's a gift: your words do the work.
  • Kinetic / bold typography. Type that moves, warps, and reacts. Done right it's personality; done wrong it's a headache. The trick is scoping the motion to ONE moment, not the whole page.
  • Gamified micro-interactions. Progress bars, badges, little rewards for engaging. When the CONTENT itself becomes the toy, people stay — and stickiness is the whole game for a local brand fighting for attention.
  • Experimental navigation. Hidden menus, command palettes (⌘K), morphing cursors. Powerful for the right audience, dangerous if your customer just wants your phone number. Use it as a delight layer, never the only way through.
  • Dark / low-light modes. Easy on the eyes, premium feel, and it makes neon accents pop. Nearly free to add, so we default to it.

The ones we mostly skip (for local businesses)

  • Heavy immersive 3D. Gorgeous in a portfolio, brutal on a phone over cell data. A plumber in Chesapeake doesn't need a WebGL scene — they need to load fast and rank.
  • Maximalism for its own sake. Busy is not the same as bold. Clutter buries your call-to-action.

How we decide what makes the cut

One question: does it help a real customer take a real action? If a trend makes the site more memorable AND keeps the path to "call/book/email" obvious, it ships. If it just looks cool in a case study, it doesn't. We build AI-first, here in the 757 — from a full redesign to video and content — and speed + clarity always beat spectacle. (See how we actually help.)
